The Victorian 2021 Women on Farms Gathering is marked in the diary to take place in the seaside village on March 26-28.
As it is with the vast majority of planned events, the COVID-19 pandemic cloud hangs over the event.
Women on farms secretary Susan Rowbottom said despite this, plans are advancing.
"We are getting our guest speakers in place and planning our workshops," Mrs Rowbottom said.
"That way if we are able to go ahead we will be ready."
The women on farms concept has been going for 30 years, with the 2020 event set down for this year in Inglewood in September.
This event has now had the date changed, with November 13-15 the revised plan due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Mrs Rowbottom said Port Fairy's gathering would remain in March, despite its close proximity to the Inglewood event.
"If COVID-19 allows we would like to keep our March dates," Mrs Rowbottom said.
"That part of year fits in well time wise for dairy, cropping and even sheep farmers, they have a bit more time."
Should it go ahead, the March 2021 gathering will be the 32nd staging of the event but the first for Port Fairy. The event is excepted to attract 200-250 women.
Moyne Shire Council provided funding of $10,000 through its festival and events funding to get the concept off the ground last year and has provided another $2675 through the same funding stream this year.
