Cobden Men's Shed will receive $6000 under the National Shed Development Programme and president Graeme Fagan said the funding would help create a built-in kitchen, dining and meeting area that is separate from the work space.
"We were really in need of this funding as the shed is all wide-open," he said.
"When you open the side door to the kitchen all the air and dust comes pouring in.
"It's going to be very nice when it's finished."
The 12 active members of the Cobden's Men's Shed said the workshop has become a community hub, with the walking group stopping by for a cup of tea and people seeking jobs from the group.
The coronavirus pandemic has meant the closure of the shed until restrictions ease, but Mr Fagan said everyone was eager to return.
"We had to shut down a fortnight ago but between the restrictions we went there once a week for three hours for a meeting, cup of tea and a talk," he said.
"The walking group comes every five weeks or so and they never know when to leave because we all get talking.
"We have a lot of men and women that come and want small jobs done and we're making flower pots, turtles and clothes horses now for sale. We were pretty busy until the virus hit but we'll get going once we get back in there."
Supported by Cobdenhealth a spokesperson said the renovations to the existing structure were needed urgently to ensure the health and safety of the members.
"We applied for $8000 toward shed renovations and when we hadn't heard back about the grant we presumed that our application was unsuccessful," the spokesperson said.
"The news came through earlier this week that we had been successful in obtaining $6000 through the programme and the men's shed will contribute a further $6000.
"The members of the shed are extremely happy with the news and look forward to starting works in the coming months."
Terang Men's Shed will also receive $1747 under the programme to upgrade their existing lights with LED lights.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan supported the programme.
"Now more than ever, sheds offer men a critical avenue for social support and engagement," he said.
"To stay healthy, we need to do regular activities with the people around us, and our local men's shed has become a focal point within the Cobden and Terang communities."
