There have been a further six deaths and 384 new cases of coronavirus overnight in Victoria, Premier Daniel Andrews has revealed.
He also said elective surgery - except for urgent category one and category two procedures - would soon be suspended.
Mr Andrews said there was a need to do this to allow staff to care for people suffering from coronavirus.
He said there was particular concern regarding people suffering from COVID-19 in private sector aged care.
"The sickest patients have to be treated the quickest," Mr Andrews said.
Mr Andrews thanked the majority of Victorians for doing the right thing when it came to following measures to stop the spread of the virus.
He thanked people who were getting tested and people who were self-isolating while they were awaiting the results of the test.
Mr Andrews said while the number of cases in regional areas remained low, he urged people to remain vigilant.
He said people who were unable to avoid being within 1.5 metres of others should wear a mask.
It was also revealed 50 cases had been linked to Australian Lamb Company in Colac.
