The show committee has been successful in its application for council's festival and events funding, with an $8000 allocation to come its way.

The funding is a one-off allocation to help the show committee make up revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This has included the show committee having to cancel a number of its fortnightly farmer markets that are held on Railway Place.

These markets are a key source of revenue for the show committee but had to be put on the backburner when the first wave of the pandemic hit.

The show committee's other major fundraiser, outside of the actual show, is camping at the showgrounds during the Port Fairy Folk Festival.

While plans are for the festival to still go ahead in 2021, like all events, some uncertainty remains as to whether that will happen.

Port Fairy Show committee assistant treasurer and former president Michael Watts said the council funding would be an important resource.

"We have missed a few markets and local sponsorship isn't there because everyone has been hit financially," Mr Watts said.

"There are still costs we have to absorb, things like insurance and other operational stuff.

"This money from council will help us be ready for a return in 2021."

The show committee has also received an allocation from council's community assistance fund.

Funding of $1686 will be used to purchase safety barriers.

Mr Watts said this safety equipment would be well used.

"At the show last year we had some people driving through places they shouldn't have been so this equipment will allow us to block those areas off," Mr Watts said.

"We can also use the barriers to put around rides and to help separate areas when we set up the camping for the Folkie."

Mr Watts said committee members will use the downtime caused by no show to carry out maintenance work at the showgrounds.

He said this would include the fitting out of one of its main sheds which was used for the first time at last year's show.
