The self-taught artist grew up in Warrnambool and returned to her home town four years ago and recommenced painting.
"I knew I'd always wanted to be a painter and I had the opportunity to step away from the corporate world where I'd been working for a long period of time," she said.
"This is my first exhibition in my home town which is lovely."
Downing uses acrylic on board, canvas and linen in CONNECTED to explore human interaction through vibrant abstract paintings.
"In one way or another we are all connected to each other. Either through family, friendships, interactions, or just being on this planet together," Downing said.
"In this world of technology there can be a separation and distance from each other. Texts replacing conversation and communication challenges everyday.
"All living things are connected one way or another; dependent, reliant and loved."
CONNECTED can be viewed online through The F Project's website or the Timor Street gallery is open on Fridays to Sundays from 10am-4pm.
