Warrnambool police Sergeant Greg Cressall said the steering tyre came off the truck heading west towards Warrnambool at 6.40am
"The tyre came off truck and hit the car that was heading east towards Camperdown," he said.
"There were no injuries. The tyre shredded and hit car going the other way.
"The truck driver pulled over. It was a steering tyre on the front."
Sergeant Cressall said there was significant damage caused to the undercarriage of the car.
"It was very fortunate there were no injuries. The car had to be towed," he said.
"There was also a two-vehicle collision at a round-about in the Warrnambool Deakin University campus just after 6am this morning.
"It just goes to show drivers need to be aware there are vehicles on the road at all times of the day and night and we all need to be mindful," he said.
