While the wearing of face masks outside of Melbourne is not compulsory for Victorians, many are taking a proactive stance to keep themselves and others safe.
With supermarkets on the retail front line, many workers have taken the lead.
Mick Daly from Koroit IGA praised his staff for their continued efforts through the pandemic.
"They have been amazing, fantastic," Mr Daly said.
"We continue to do what we can to make our store as safe as it can be for staff and customers.
"It isn't compulsory to wear masks but we provide them for our staff who do want to wear them.
"Our management of our staff and people in the store is something we keep working hard on.
"Most people who come in want to do the right thing, sanitise their hands and adhere to social distancing.
"We have some limits in place on certain items so we don't get to that panic buying stage that happened back when stage three restrictions were in place."
Colin Cleary from Port Fairy IGA said while there had been no decision made to have all staff wear masks, he was supportive of those that did.
"We have staff members who wear masks and some who wear gloves," Mr Cleary said.
"For those who do want to wear both or either then we provide the masks and gloves for them.
"We are very happy with the regime we have in place to make sure everyone in the store is safe.
"There is a sanitising station at the front door and everyone is very careful and conscious of doing the right thing."
Mr Cleary said business had slowed once the school holidays had finished.
He said it was difficult to project forward to what might happen to consumer habits if stage three restrictions were re-introduced in country Victoria.
"It's hard to pick what would happen next time," Mr Cleary said.
"You try and plan for these things but they never turn out as you might expect."
