Mortlake Acting Sergeant Paul McLean said the male was driving a silver Ford Falcon sedan west on Purchells Lane, Mortlake, at about 9am on Sunday when he lost control and crashed through a fence.

"The male driver took the number plates off the Ford Falcon and was driven to an address in Mortlake," Acting Sergeant McLean said.

"At that address the male got into a black Holden Commodore ute with no plates on it."

Terang police were investigating the collision scene when they saw a black Holden Commodore ute stop at the scene.

"Terang police then attempted to intercept the ute but the driver waved and drove off," Acting Sergeant McLean said.

Police detected the male driver at 157 km/h in a 100 zone on the Castle Carey Road heading towards Camperdown.

Port Campbell police were waiting at the Camperdown end and checked the vehicle at 148 km/h in a 100 zone.

"The Port Campbell member activated the emergency lights and attempted to intercept the vehicle but it drove around and away from the Port Campbell member," Acting Sergeant McLean said.

A short time later Camperdown Police and the Port Campbell member attended at an address in Larralea and located the vehicle where the male driver was uncooperative.

Police from Terang and Mortlake also attended the address.

The vehicle was later impounded.

The 18-year-old has been charged with 10 offences including unlicensed driving, careless driving, speed dangerous, failing to stop on police direction, failing to give information as to the driver of a vehicle, driving an unregistered motor car and hindering police.

Anyone overtaken by a black Holden Commodore on the Castle Carey Road between Mortlake and Camperdown mid-Sunday morning is asked to contact the Terang Police Station on 5592 1058.
