The Hampden and Warrnambool and District leagues have both cancelled their senior football and netball competitions in 2020 in the wake of the pandemic.

The Bulls, North Warrnambool Warriors and Warrnambool Raiders play in the Limestone Coast Rugby League, a South Australian competition.

Gaby said the LCRL are unsure if they will go ahead in 2020 but the three clubs are open to new players joining their ranks.

The Bulls have a men's and women's side while the Raiders and Warriors fielded men's teams last season.

Gaby said his club is open to footballers and netballers giving the sport a go, even if it is just for a bit of fitness and social interaction.

"We'd like to get people who have itchy feet and want to have a bit of a run and give rugby a crack," the 29-year-old said.

"It's similar to footy if they like a bit of contact and they can learn some skills from rugby that they can take back to footy.

"We have got a lot of blokes that have actually played footy that play for us and play both seasons.

"Same with the girls where we have a few of the South Warrnambool girls have come across and played.

"We are also looking for any girls, even ones that missed out on netball, that might want to give rugby a crack."

Gaby said half the Bulls' men's and women's sides in 2020 were made up of footballers playing during the summer months.

The club's inaugural president, who is now entering his third season in the role, hoped rugby could help fill a void left by no football or netball this year.

"I know a lot of them were working on their fitness and a lot were quite gutted," he said. "I have a few mates that play footy and they are going to be coming across because of that disappointment (of not playing their sport in 2020).

"Everyone looks forward to the footy season as it is such a big thing around here. It's like any sport you kind of miss out on it when it goes away but it doesn't hurt to give something new like rugby a crack."

Gaby said if anyone was interested they can message the club on the Gunditjmara Bulls Facebook page.

He added the club is expecting to start pre-season training in the next few weeks and would be similar to what football is like.

"It's probably less running and at the start we will be doing more running because we can't do contact and it will be about everyone getting to know each other," he said.
