But life couldn't be better for the determined 29-year-old.
Ms West was just 25 when she suffered the stroke, which left her on life support for months. She had limited mobility for three years but is regaining confidence and plans to walk in the Surf 'T' Surf in 2021.

Ms West said surgery to repair a shortened muscle last year had helped with her recovery, as had daily exercise and boxing sessions.
She is also enrolled in a social work course at Deakin University.
Ms West said her advice to stroke sufferers was to never give up.
Her next goal is to return to jogging, a pastime she loved before the stroke.
