Hamilton police Constable Jeremy Kelly said officers were still seeking information about the man's driving behaviour, in particular vehicle dash camera footage
"Police received a call about 4pm Friday after the 36-year-old man did a burnout in front of the Digby Hotel," he said.
"The Branxholme police officer attended and the driver of a blue Holden sedan evaded the officer when he tried to intercept the vehicle.
"A divisional van left Hamilton on the Dartmoor-Hamilton Road and only a couple of minutes later detected the blue Holden at 146km/h in a 100km/h zone coming into Hamilton."
Constable Kelly said the driver refused to stop for the van crew and was soon after was clocked by a Hamilton police sergeant at 121kmh in a 60 km/h zone.
"He was certainly hooking along and refused to stop for the sergeant as well," he said.
"The blue Holden sped through town and was dumped, hidden behind a house at a Hamilton address in Henry Court.
"Soon after that a different vehicle was intercepted by officers on Ballarat Road and the driver of the blue Holden sedan was identified as a passenger in that vehicle."
Constable Kelly said the man was arrested, interviewed and charged with high-end driving offences, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
"He was charged with nine driving offences, including driving in a dangerous manner and driving at a dangerous speed and failing to stop police when directed by police three times," he said.
"The blue Holden was also unregistered and the driver was unlicensed.
"He was charged and bailed to appear in the Hamilton Magistrates Court on October 21."
The police officer said the vehicle was also impounded for a month with towing and storage fees amounting to $1005.
"This driver put all other road users at that time in danger and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," Constable Kelly said.
"We are keen to talk to anyone who witnessed the man's extremely dangerous driving or who has dash camera footage.
"We are requesting that people with information contact the Hamilton police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
