The 19-year-old and his girlfriend Amelia Monk, also 19, have set up base in Noosa after leaving the south-west chasing a change of scenery and warmer weather.

Annett, a former Greater Western Victoria Rebels-listed player, said it was an opportunity for them to experience living on their own and playing football in another state.

"We are seeing how it all goes now but I am already loving it," he said.

"Even though we are in quarantine we are allowed out so we can exercise and I'm already loving all the scenery I have seen when going for runs and have set up a nice little gym.

"We originally wanted to go to the Gold Coast but the last couple of weeks we wanted to go somewhere more laid-back.

"We were lucky enough to have family friends take us under their wing until we can find a place to rent or buy."

The couple has set up with fellow south-west exports Butch and Bec Smith after spending three days driving up through New South Wales to Queensland from Warrnambool last week.

Annett and Monk will both play Noosa Tigers, the club retired AFL star Brent Moloney was formerly associated with, in the Queensland Football Association's first division in 2020.

Moloney, another former south-west resident and Roosters junior who is happy in the sunshine state, has already visited the couple to welcome them to their new home.

Monk previously played as a forward\midfielder for Ballarat Grammar during her time at boarding school and with the Greater Western Victoria Rebels girls side.

Annett said he and Monk had immediately felt drawn to the Tigers when searching for a club to play for.

"I have heard good things about them and heard they were a good family-orientated club, which was what we were both looking for," he said.

"Just the way the town is the oval is very central and in a good place nicely placed along Weyba Creek and Brent was there and has now gone on from Noosa onto higher levels."

Annett said his goals are initially centred around earning his spot in the Tigers' senior side before aiming for a spot in a North East Australian Football League side in the future.

"That is the ultimate goal and it will take a bit of hard work but I have got to start somewhere and I feel this is the best place to start," he said.

Annett was set to miss the QFA's opening round on July 11 due to his two-week quarantine but because the Tigers have a bye he can line up when the team returns the following week.

The couple is currently looking for jobs and is hoping to begin studying later this year.

Annett is eager to jump into health science, with a keen interest in nutrition, or sports science.
