Port Fairy Golf Links president Steve Uebergang told The Standard the club's Sunday offering was averaging between 50 and 60 players.
He said the club was able to cater for about 160 on Saturday but overflowing numbers inspired the creation of a secondary Sunday competition.
"It's good to have that other competition as the a lot of golfers enjoy that competition side of golf, rather than just having a hit," Uebergang said.
"It's definitely going better than we first thought.
"We've been busy enough. Everyone has been good at keeping the 1.5-metre distance and doing the right things."
He said the club had welcomed back green fees players in recent weeks but was taking a cautious approach.
"We've made it that they need a GolfLink number so they're easily contactable," Uebergang said.
"There's been great interest to play and we've picked up a few members as well.

"People are out there getting a game of golf and that's the most important thing."
Port Fairy's clubhouse has reopened to a maximum of 20 people.
He said the club was working with Moyne Health to ensure all staff, members and players were practicing safe hygiene. "The government has sort of drilled social distancing and hygiene into everyone," Uebergang said.
