A man will undergo surgery on Tuesday after being bitten by a police dog in Warrnambool late Monday.

Detective Senior Constable Ross Hatton, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said members of the special operations group swarmed a house in Lava Street, just east of the Banyan Street roundabout, soon after 5pm Monday and arrested a 31-year-old man.
The man, from Carpendeit, was wanted in relation to the theft of an $80,000 1993 Nissan 300ZX racing car in the Melbourne suburb of Hume earlier this month.
It's also alleged the regular methamphetamine user was in possession of a homemade shotgun.
"The red Nissan was stolen from Hume in early June and investigations by members of the Wyndham CIU revealed that the 31-year-old Carpendeit man was a person of interest," Detective Senior Constable Hatton said.
"Further inquiries last week confirmed that the person of interest was driving that vehicle.
"Information was also received that he was in possession of a homemade shotgun, which led to the involvement of the special operations group members.
"The man is also a serial police driving evader which led to it being determined he was a high-risk offender."
The police dog and handler helped find the man hiding in a toilet at the Lava Street home.
It's alleged the man resisted attempts to arrest him and the dog grabbed his left arm, causing significant injuries and capsicum foam was also deployed.
"The arrested man was transported to the Warrnambool Base Hospital for assessment and treatment," Detective Senior Constable Hatton said.
"He was there under police guard overnight and is expected to have surgery on his left arm today.
"The offender will appear in court when he's available to do so.
"He is yet to be interviewed but is assisting us with inquiries and will be charged with offences including theft of the red Nissan, firearm offences and driving matters."
The 1993 Nissan 300ZX racing car was previously recovered by members of the Wyndham CIU.
