The Port Fairy community's inventive twist on hosting Australia's Biggest Morning Tea during the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a productive one.
The team behind Port Fairy Biggest Morning Tea, in partnership with the town's Rotary and Lions' clubs and the Port Fairy and District Community Bank, has raised over $10,000, the second highest tally of any town contribution in Victoria.
While a Biggest Morning Tea function was off the table due to social distancing restrictions, the Port Fairy organising team oversaw a series of 29 "Lots of Littlest Morning Teas".
Team member Heather Hampson said the aim had been to raise $5000, which would allow those behind the Port Fairy effort to choose which type of cancer the money would be used to research.
"It's been brilliant, mind-blowing really," Mrs Hampson said of the town's efforts.
"We were near $10,000 and then Colin Cleary from Port Fairy IGA generously donated the amount needed to get us to $10,000.
"To be second highest in the state for such a small town is amazing, it shows what a wonderful community we have."
Mrs Hampson said the series of littler morning teas may still have a place when the COVID-19 crisis was over.
"It was certainly a popular way to do it and we will now look at what we might do next year," she said.
"Maybe it might be a combination of smaller events and a bigger one, we will discuss those options."
While morning teas where the most popular gatherings to raise funds for the cancer council campaign, they weren't the only means to an end.
Men's and women's drinks, a card night and a piano recital were among the creative ways people raised money as part of the morning tea crusade.
"People were certainly prepared to get creative and find different ways to come together and raise some funds for the cause," Mrs Hampson said.
