Short rode three of the five jumps winners on the eight-event program and ran third on two occasions in the flat high-weight races. He was successful on Britannicus, Woodsman and Mapping.

The 23-year-old Irishman, who is apprenticed to Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde, told The Standard he was thrilled to have ridden three jumps winners at the meeting.

"It's been a special day," Short said. "I thought I had a good book of rides driving to the meeting and it proved right.

"It's a big thrill to boot home three winners and one of those was for my boss Symon Wilde. The Wilde family have been great supporters of mine since I moved to Warrnambool nearly two years ago.

"They have sponsored me and helped me set up residence in Warrnambool. I'm extremely grateful for their help and support.

"I've also received a lot of support from other trainers during my short career in Australia. I'm just hoping the three winners will give me more opportunities for some good rides in the upcoming jumps features."

Short said his mum Rienielde had text him from his home town of Wicklow in Ireland after his three victories.

"I checked my phone after the meeting and there was a message from mum," he said.

"She had been to bed but got up to watch the races before going back to bed. She was happy. I'll have to give her a call back.

"My family have been very supportive of me setting up my career in Warrnambool."

Short said his three winners were destined for more wins over the jumps in the future. He has ridden 12 winners in Australia with ten of those in jumps races.
