Janet actually first started the project at her Purnim home, north of Warrnambool, Victoria, in December last year.
"I had an old painting on some cement sheeting and my builder friend made it into a shed for me. I had all this paint left over from different things," she said.
"My whole career as a teacher I've been encouraging people to be creative and here I was wondering what on earth I was going to do with myself, and there was the wall and there was the paint."
So Janet decided to spend a few hours each day working on the mural to help keep her connected - albeit through her artwork - with family members that are spread across the country.
"I was missing my children and grandchildren," she said.
"They were all feeling a little bit lonely.
"I wanted people to realise we were still in the same beautiful country under the same sky.
"I want people to stay positive and uplifted."
At the start of the pandemic, one of her children actually drove all the way from Queensland to check on her - a three-day trip that took him through the back blocks of each state in an attempt to lower the likelihood of bringing the virus with him.
"He was really frightened about infection affecting us because we're older. To me he was just a champion to come down," she said.
"I hadn't been well and he wanted to make sure we had enough food.
"He got here and then they talked about closing the borders, so he stayed one night and drove three days back."
To stay connected Janet has added the homes of each of her children and close family members alongside a painting of her own property.
"Then I started adding other people's houses as well," Janet said.
"Everyone who's been able to come within a couple of metres has added to the mural. It's been quite nice."
"I found out later I should have been using house paints not tube paints, because I went through a lot of paint," she said.
Janet said that when it was finished and clear coated, she planned invite people over to enjoy the old homestead Carrakoorte and the mural.
