Caleb McKenzie spoke to The Standard on Thursday and said the Cobden-Port Campbell Road and the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road were in desperate need of repair.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll announced on Friday a $32.8 million program through the Building Works package which will prevent landslips and support jobs on the ground and in the supply chain.
The program will include works on key south-west routes including Princes Highway West, Colac-Lavers Hill Road, Deans Marsh-Lorne Road, Cobden-Port Campbell Road, Timboon-Nullawarre Road and Timboon-Colac Road.
"We're keeping regional tourism and communities thriving - these upgrades are on key routes that connect tourists to some of the state's most-visited tourist hotspots like the Twelve Apostles and Port Campbell," Mr Carroll said.
The landslip prevention works are expected to commence within the next six months and are scheduled for completion before the end of the 2020/21 financial year.
EARLIER: A Port Campbell resident is fed up with the state of south-west roads.
Caleb McKenzie is calling on VicRoads to "seriously invest" in fixing the roads he drives everyday after labelling them as "dangerous".
Mr McKenzie says the Cobden-Port Campbell Road and the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road, which he drives on regularly, are in dire need of repair.
"We need these roads done up," he said.
"The soil moves under these roads and they need to dig 10 feet down with an excavator, fill in with rocks and fix them properly.
"They're dangerous and there's parts were you're almost thrown out of your seat.
"On top of this, the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road is a tourist road."
Mr McKenzie has reached out to VicRoads in the south-west and Melbourne but he was continually told the roads were not a priority.
"I've spoken to VicRoads and they say they have no money," he said. "But they've wasted our money on installing the guard rails, the 70km/h speed sign on the Cobden-Warrnambool Road and putting in pavements.
We pay our rego and expect our roads to be up to standard.
- Caleb McKenzie
"Everyone is sick and tired of these roads."
Cobden-Port Campbell Road and the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road are both state roads and fall under direction of the Department of Transport. The Department was contacted for comment but were unable to respond by deadline.
