"It was a long time ago," he said.
"We've got good security, with monitored alarms, so we were alerted straight away that someone was in the store.
"And we've got security cameras so we can see people coming in and going.
"There's an audible alarm. It's very loud when it goes off."
Mr Lucas said police detectives were reviewing the CCTV footage.
"The worst part is the damage," he said.
"We'll have to replace the doors and the til draw which is all hooked up to the point of sale system," he said.
Detective Sergeant Raven said burglaries were always a concern for police.
"We are targeting recidivist offenders and making sure we they are aware we are watching them."
Earlier: Takeaway thieves have stolen a cash register from the Subway store in the Homemaker Centre in east Warrnambool.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Raven, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said offenders had forced their way into the store through a door at about 6am Friday.
The cash register and a small amount of cash were removed from the building.
"We are reviewing security camera footage," he said.
"Forensic officers are on scene examining the store for forensic evidence.
"Anyone with information is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
