Andrew Watts ran a marathon on his treadmill on Saturday to help bring awareness to Sands Australia, a miscarriage, stillborn and new born death support organisation.
In the past 10 months his daughter-in-law, Ebony Gleeson, lost a baby boy when she was 16 weeks pregnant due to a congenital heart defect and his daughter, Tamba Watts, suffered a missed miscarriage at nine weeks.
Together with family and friends they have raised more than $3000 for the support group, but Ms Gleeson said more than anything she wanted to raise awareness around the stigma that comes with losing a baby. "It's a silent grief," she said.
"But there is people to go to for support."
Mr Watts said although he kept himself fit, he hadn't run a marathon in 18 years. "It has been a special and moving moment for us today," he said.
He ran the marathon in about four and half hours and said his family planned to come together on Saturday night to share in the achievement.
