While swimming pools in Victoria were allowed to open on June 1, gyms are still closed until June 22 as coronavirus restrictions are eased.
Belfast Aquatics president Anne McIlroy said the later date was a better fit for the facility.
"The restrictions are pretty tight, only three swimmers in each lane and 20 in the place at one time," Mrs McIlroy said.
"By the time we fill and heat the pool it just isn't economically viable.
"On the 22nd we will be able to get some gym classes going which will make it worthwhile to open again."
Staff and committee members have been kept busy since the closure of Belfast Aquatics in March due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The jobkeeper program has allowed staff to stay gainfully employed, carrying out maintenance and cleaning tasks.
The closure has also created a window of opportunity to renovate the changerooms.
Mrs McIllroy said the productive use of the time away would make a visit to Belfast Aquatics a better experience for patrons.
"When we do re-open on June 22 it will certainly be a much better facility with all the renovations we have done," she said.
"Our new air control system, which had just got going before we had to close, will also been running at full capacity and will make a big difference."
Belfast Aquatics first opened its doors in 2007 after a community-led and funded campaign to have the facility built.
Income from use of the pool and gym, fundraising by the committee and an annual contribution from Moyne Shire Council combine to fund the facility's operation.
