While some businesses chose to continue takeaway options until more people would be allowed in, many eateries jumped at the opportunity to have dine-in options available again.

With socially distant seating, venues welcomed a maximum of 20 diners and Warrnamboolians were excited to be back supporting businesses.

Harry Stokes returned to Bohemia Cafe with his friends for lunch on Monday.

"The food is good and it has the best breakfast in town," he said.

"On the first day back I wanted to come to my favourite place.

"It's good to get out and support our local guys and there's always a good atmosphere here."

Sophie Lenehan also returned to the cafe for a sit-down meal having visited throughout lockdown for takeaway drinks and food.

"It's my favourite place in Warrnambool, I don't go anywhere else," she said.

"The food is good and the service is good. I've been coming here about twice a week for coffee since isolation began."

Errol Stewart, Trev Bonney and Bob McMillan began getting takeaway coffee from Main Beach Kiosk after going for walks to reduce their cabin fever.

"We've been coming here for weeks for a drink and they looked after us very well," Mr McMillan said.

"We went for walks to get some social interaction and we'd end up back here and it was fantastic they could keep the place open during lockdown.

"We thought we'd come in and support them on their first day back."

Friends Jane Bishop, Trish Bowen, Jenny Carey Lesley Kuhne and Maria O'Grady reunited for lunch at the Pavilion Cafe and Bar.

"We thought we'd come and catch up after not seeing each other for eight weeks or so," Mrs O'Grady said.

"It's been so lovely and it nice to hear everyone's news, we've all missed our friends.

"We came here regularly before coronavirus so we thought we'd come back to support them."

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced in mid-May pubs, cafes and restaurants would be open from June 1 after further easing of coronavirus restrictions.

The Premier suggested the amount of diners could increase from 20 to 50 from June 22 and up to 100 by mid-July.

"Do the right thing, take things seriously," he said.

"Getting these venues up and running is very important, as long as it is done safely."
