Detective Senior Constable Craig Wastell, of Warrnambool police, said a Port Fairy man was interviewed on Sunday morning and subsequently charged with intentionally causing injury and affray.
The man has been bailed and will appear in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on September 21.
Detective Senior Constable Craig Wastell said police were still investigating whether the gathering violated coronavirus regulations.
Earlier Saturday 4.50pm: A PORT Fairy teenager is in a Melbourne hospital after receiving head injuries from an alleged serious assault at a private gathering in the town.
Detective Senior Constable Craig Wastell, of Warrnambool police, said the 19-year-old male had received a fractured skull and internal bleeding after the altercation around 10.30pm on Friday night.
He said the conflict occurred between two groups not believed to be known to each other at a party in an industrial shed on Awabi Court at the town's west.
A 22-year-old Warrnambool man also received minor injuries.
Paramedics took both men to Warrnambool Base Hospital, where an air ambulance flew the Port Fairy teenager to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
"The injuries are non-life threatening," Senior Constable Wastell said.
He said police investigations continued on Saturday.
Up to 20 people attended the gathering and Sergeant Wastell said police would also be investigating a breach of COVID-19 restrictions.
"It appears there might have been breaches around that. With the lockdowns in place it shouldn't have happened," he said.
If anyone was around the area at the time Warrnambool Criminal Investigation Unit has requested they contact 5560 1333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
