The Melbourne Cup in November is on the agenda following Super Girl's third-placing in the Andrew Ramsden at Flemington on Saturday. A victory in the Ramsden guaranteed the winner a start in this year's Melbourne Cup but Julius was excited with his five-year-old's efforts.
"We'll be putting in an entry for this year's Melbourne Cup after her run in the Ramsden," Julius told The Standard.
"It was a great effort considering it was under weight-for-age conditions. It's exciting to have a promising stayer in the stable. We'll plot a path to the Melbourne Cup and it may include a run in the Caulfield Cup.
"With the chance there may be no international horses in this year's Melbourne Cup, we've got to have a throw at the stumps. It would be great if the cup was only for local stayers this year."
Julius, 30, who left his training base in Warrnambool five years ago to pursue new opportunities in Bendigo, said the 3200 metres of the Melbourne Cup held no challenges for Super Girl.
"I'm confident she'll run out a strong two miles," he said.
"She's been in very good form with a fourth placing in the Warrnambool Cup a fortnight ago.
"Two of her three wins have been in races over 2400 metres and her other win was over 2000 metres.
"She handles all types of going so we'll give it a good shot. I'll work out over the next few days with her owners the program we'll take to get to the cup."
Talented jockey Bill Egan gave Julius a glowing report on Super Girl's run in the Ramsden.
"Billy was really happy with her run," Julius said.
"Billy said she was very relaxed in the run and went to the line strongly. He said she should develop into a vey handy stayer."
The daughter of So You Think took her stake earnings to more then $125,000 from her 18 starts with the third placing on Saturday.
Warrnambool trainer Lindsey Smith will spell his handy galloper Too Close The Sun after his unplaced effort in the Ramsden.
