Heywood Ag Sales and Services sales manager Darryl Melano was disappointed in the theft but was keeping his spirits up.
"They broke in and it's as simple as that," he said.
"Life goes on and we have to work harder now."
Portland police's Acting Sergeant Michael Vaughan said offenders broke through a side entrance at the Edgar Street store some time between 5am and 6am on Wednesday.
The offenders allegedly stole 15 Stihl chainsaws and two Honda generators, with an overall value between $10,000 and $15,000.
Acting Sergeant Vaughan said police were processing fingerprints from the scene and making further inquiries.
"They have a high re-sell value and are an easy offload. If there's a deal on a chainsaw or a generator that seems to good to be true, let us know," he said.
"It's a major business and it will financially hurt them."
