Simon Told Helen, a two-year-old boasting nearly half-a-million dollars in prizemoney, will contest the race for Warrnambool-born doctor Michael Carroll and former Illowa farmer John O'Toole.
Trainer Dave Burnett, who is based in Little River, said it was unfortunate the owners couldn't attend but was hopeful their chaser could secure the prestigious cup.
Simon Told Helen, who has 12 wins from 20 starts, ran second to Zambora Smokey in his heat last week but Burnett was confident the speedster was back to his best. "He'll be back to his peak," he told The Standard. "His first two starts were at Warrnambool and they were faster than his run last week so he just loves the track.
"Hopefully it's a nice, dry track as that will suit him well."
