The gun all-rounder, who first arrived as an overseas prospect in 2016, is unsure if Sri Lanka's borders will reopen in time for a quick trip home.
Australia's borders are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with no commercial flights in or out of the country.
It's unclear when they'll reopen but experts believe travel could be among the final restrictions lifted as Australia battles the virus.
Perera has already extended his stint in Port Fairy for another season, signing on for his fifth year at Avery's Paddock.
It was a no-brainer for the 27-year-old, who hails from the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
"The climate, the club and the scenery really took my attention," he told The Standard.
"This is an experience that I will (value) forever.
"I feel very much attached to this community since I've been here."
Perera has carved out 1770 runs in four seasons to complement his 129 wickets in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association.
His form hasn't gone unnoticed, with Melbourne Country Week selectors rewarding his ability with two separate caps.
I feel very much attached to this community since I've been here.
- Jason Perera
Perera hoped to help Port Fairy regain its status as a Warrnambool cricket powerhouse. "I would like to improve my batting skills to a better point," he said.
"We also have a another talented Sri Lankan player who'll be hopefully visiting next year. We think we can have a balanced side to play for a spot in the finals."
Port Fairy's division one outfit failed to win a game in 2019-20 but a grand final appearance from the Pirates' under 17 charges was a shining light.
Max Green, who has all but secured the Pirates' division one wicket-keeping duties, also capped a strong junior year with the colts cricketer of the year.
