Wood, originally from the Camperdown region, was isolating at his mother's property in Gnotuk with wife Tiffany and daughter Matilda when the burglary took place.
The 30-year-old returned to his Albert Park property to find thieves had also snatched his wife's great grandfather's silver World War I service identification tag.
The tag was engraved with 'Sayers SA 1830' on the front and 'Nugget' on the back.
Mr Wood described the theft as "pretty awful".
We got home and all the doors and cabinets were open. We didn't think we had left the place this messy, then it dawned on us.

"We got home and all the doors and cabinets were open. We didn't think we had left the place this messy, then it dawned on us," he said.
"That feeling of someone going through your things and discovering what they'd taken and obviously the sentimental value that it has and the irreplaceable nature of it, yeah it was really hard."
Wood, who led the Western Bulldogs to their first AFL premiership victory in 62 years in 2016, said he was unsure if the burglary was targeted.
"Maybe. I've been posting stuff on Instagram with my location at Camperdown but I don't know. I've got no idea," he said.
He revealed he planned to pass the medal on to his daughter.
"It's just something you can't replace," the 160-gamer said. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
