The online poll received more than 370 votes with the 2009-11 Power outfit receiving more than a fifth of the vote.

Kolora-Noorat's 2017, '19 premiership squad finished second and Russells Creek's 2004-05 team had the third most votes at time of print.

The Power's three-peat team has a fascinating back-story.

Kolora-Noorat joined the WDFNL in 2003 and seven years later won its first premiership.

Noorat and Kolora, both strong clubs, merged after having been members of the Heytesbury Mount Noorat Football League since 1992.

Simon Bourke, club president in 2010-11, was on the committee from the beginning.

"We always knew coming in, it (a flag) wasn't going to happen straight away, it was going to take time," he said.

While the club didn't experience senior football glory in initial years, it did win junior and netball premierships.

It won the A grade netball title in 2003.

Bourke said the club benefited from having junior premiership players who progressed to the senior football team.

He believes junior coaches are just as, if not more, important than senior coaches.

The former president said they had a key role in teaching youngsters to respect the game and the people in their community.

Bourke said the club also had a focus on drawing on its strong history (prior to the merger) and building on that.

"We've always wanted to create a place where people want to be and where people want to stay," he said.

Kolora-Noorat made five WDFNL grand finals in a row (2008-12) and was successful against Timboon Demons in 2009, Dennington in 2010 and Old Collegians in 2011.

Bourke believes 2008 grand final mentor Daniel Beard played a crucial role in developing strong culture.

"He had a massive part in that, he really set the ball rolling as far as professionalism and that flowed into '09, '10 and '11," he said.

Gerard Justin, who was president from 2008-09, said there had always been a healthy expectation at the club - it wants to be the best it can on and off-field.

So Kolora-Noorat was keen to secure its first flag.

"There was a fair bit of expectation, we wanted to get a senior (premiership) win to stamp ourselves on the league," Justin said.

Ben Kenna - current Terang Mortlake coach in the Hampden league, was the Power's playing-coach from 2009 until the end of 2014.

He'd finish with 100 wins from 121 matches.

Kenna, who had won flags with Kolora and Terang Mortlake, said he joined a team hungry for success.

The Power lost the 2008 decider to the Timboon Demons by nine points.

"We retained a fair nucleus of the players we had the year before," Kenna said.

"The players and club were driven to try and take that further once I took over."

Kenna admits he felt some pressure taking on the team.

"I felt a little bit of pressure as coach taking over because they had lost one," he said.

Kenna said that pressure wasn't talked about and he didn't let on he felt it at the time.

So he was pleased when the Power got its breakthrough in 2009.

"There was a fair bit of relief to get it done," he said.

Kenna felt he had a squad that played well as a team during the 2009-11 era.

"They were fairly responsive to my coaching direction and I thought their teamwork was very strong," he said.

"They were predictable to each other in the way they went about."

The playing-coach kept directions simple.

"You don't want to give them too much because the players can get a bit confused," he said.

"It's district league football not AFL."

He said the group had league best and fairest winners but the team was the focus.

"I don't think we relied on three or four or five players,' he said.

No premiership stands out for Kenna either.

"Individually, they were all special for the club," he said.

The former coach said the changeover of players made each campaign unique.

Family was a huge theme for those Kolora-Noorat sides and there were four Kenna brothers involved throughout the three-peat.

Ben and Nick played in '09, Luke joined them in '10 and Dom was part of the success in '11.

The Moloney brothers - Sam and Paddy - were also involved as was their cousin Ben Fraser.

Fraser, who played in the 2009-10 premierships, said family connections attracted him to the club in 2009.

Fraser had an incredible impact at the club in his first season booting 102 goals - his best ever tally for the Power.

He slotted three majors in the 2009 decider and four in 2010.

The talented footballer, who hails from San Remo, had previously played for the Casey Scorpions - now Casey Demons - in the VFL.

Fraser travelled from Melbourne, with teammate Sean Bourke, in his first year.

He'd switch between full-forward and centre half-forward with James Hicks who bagged 43 goals in 2009 and 24 in 2010.

Fraser believes the 2009-10 team had a good mix of youth and experience.

He said the Power had leadership from veterans such as playing-coach Kenna, Simon Darcy and Shane Hutchins.

They also had vibrant youngsters like Mark Clissold.

"We had some pretty good individuals, we had some good top-end talent and some guys to prop them up," he said.

Fraser said Kenna played a crucial role in the team's success because he didn't over-complicate things.

"Everyone knew their role and played their role well," he said.

He added Kenna, a half-back flanker, led by example.

"When you saw some of the things he did, you were inspired by him," he said.

Former president Justin said Kenna was "an amazing coach and an underrated footballer really".

He said most of the Power's players were locally based and Kenna was "very clever at recruiting the right type of players."

The 2009 premiership stands out for Fraser.

The Power had four football teams in grand finals that day and the reserves claimed glory as well.

He remembers how much it meant to the community and the emotion on peoples' faces.

There were about 400 people at the social rooms when the players arrived.

"That was the moment, I thought oh my god this means a lot to a lot of people," he said.

Fraser said the community was so appreciative of the players, with people coming up to him and saying "thank you".

Justin recalled seeing the happy families and kids that day - kids who looked up to the likes of Fraser.

Many of those youngsters went on to play alongside Fraser in the 2019 flag.

Fraser has played in four premierships (also 2017, '19) and said it was hard to compare which Power side was better.
