IMPORTED galloper The King will make his Australian debut for Warrnambool trainer Lindsey Smith at Geelong on April 15, instead of at Caulfield on Saturday.

Smith, who has stables in Warrnambool and Perth, accepted with The King in a $125,000 benchmark 90 over 1600 metres at Caulfield but decided to save the five-year-old for the Geelong race.
"Saturday's race has just come up to quick for The King," he said.
"We gave him a jump-out over 850 metres at Camperdown on Monday and he worked well but I think he's going to be better at Geelong on April 15.
"He's a big strong staying type of horse. He's a clean winded horse.
"I've got a bit of an opinion of him. We may try and get a start in the Warrnambool Cup next month.
"We'll just wait and see how he improves off the back of the Geelong start before looking at the Warrnambool Cup."

Fellow Warrnambool trainers Symon Wilde, Aaron Purcell and Maddie Raymond have runners at Caulfield while Winslow raised trainer Ciaron Maher has numerous runners at the meeting.
Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace accepted with classy filly Loving Gaby in the $1.3 million T. J. Smith Stakes at Randwick.
Loving Gaby won her last start in the William Reid Stakes. She's won four of her 12 runs.
Holyfield will represent the powerful Maher - Eustace training combination in the $610,000 Sires Produce and stablemate Dr Drill is the first emergency in the $1.6 million Doncaster Mile.
