James Pill, 34, of Bates Road, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court charged with theft and drug-related offending.

The charges related to a number of incidents dating back to September 18 last year.

On that date the man is accused of attending a friend's house in Warrnambool and asking to borrow the victim's silver Holden Commodore station wagon in order to pick someone up.

The victim agreed and was of the belief his vehicle would be returned in about 10 minutes.

But Mr Pill allegedly never returned the vehicle despite the owner making several attempts to contact him.

The theft was reported to police on September 19 and the vehicle was located two days later in Terang.

The vehicle was towed for forensic analysis.

Police allegedly found Mr Pill's fingerprints on a bank card located in the vehicle.

Then on February 3 this year, Mr Pill allegedly stole chocolate and a torch from a Warrnambool business.

The court heard he was then located unconscious in a Timor Street laneway on February 18.

Mr Pill was transported to Warrnambool Base Hospital where a nurse uncovered human growth hormones inside the man's bumbag.

He was arrested on March 27.

In a bail application on Monday, lawyer Morgan Adams said Mr Pill intended to contest the charge of theft of a motor vehicle and if not released from custody, he faced a real possibility of delay.

Mr Pill was released on bail with conditions, including he not leave Victoria, abide by a 9pm to 6am curfew and take part in the Court Integrated Services Program.

He will appear in court again on June 15.
