Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said Portland investigators and Heywood and Branxholme uniform officers executed the search warrant at a Lang Street property at 10am on Friday.
"As a result we have located six mature cannabis plants growing in the back yard and two firearms," he said.
"One was a sawn-off shotgun and the other a .22 rifle. A 56-year-old man was arrested and conveyed to Dartmoor police station."
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said the man had an extensive criminal history and was a prohibited person under the Firearms Act.
The man was interviewed and charged with weapon and drug-related offences.
He was released on bail to appear at Portland Magistrates Court on June 15.
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said it was a great effort by joint police units.
"It is great to get those drugs and firearms off the street, making it a safer place for the community,' he said.
"These items were definitely in the hands of the wrong people."
Anyone with drug-related activity information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
