A poll on The Standard website found the Peter Timms-coached side as the readers' pick, with 12.8 per cent of the vote.

As of Friday afternoon, Creek - which is chasing its first finals berth in a decade - accrued 42 votes in total.

Creek signed several East Warrnambool players when the Bombers fell into a two-year recess in October before luring Dylan Herbertson back from the Hampden league this month.

Brothers Phil and Jyran Chatfield, utility Dylan Burns and midfielder Sam Grinter were among the most high-profile Bombers to cross to Mack Oval.

The Kangaroos' district league rivals Old Collegians (39) and Panmure (37) were second and third.

South Warrnambool was the highest Hampden league club in fourth overall, polling 26 votes, while Portland was a close second with 21.

Kangaroos coach Peter Timms said the club worked hard to sign new talent in the off-season.

"We knew what we needed, and we targeted that," he said.

"We had Andy McMeel doing a lot of work in the midfield last year with some inexperienced guys around him but now we probably have seven or eight who can rotate through there.

"I think they're A grade midfielders. There's a new six or seven guys now that can run through there as starting midfielders."

Timms was disappointed his new-look side was unable to hit the field due to COVID-19 but said the pandemic was bigger than football.

"We're just missing a bit of footy. There's people losing their lives over this and it's not something we're taking lightly," he said.

"We need to just stay at home and stop the spread."

He was pleased the football fraternity had looked favourably upon his club's off-season signings.

"It's good to know people see us on the improve," Timms said.
