With no Melbourne metropolitan racing on Saturday, the Bendigo meeting is the major race day in Victoria.

Guizot, a last-start Caulfield winner has drawn barrier 12 in the 1600-metre race but may come in one or two barriers with scratchings in the listed race.

"I would have preferred to have drawn about barrier seven or eight with Guizot," Purcell said.

"It's a very good field and will be a tough race to win. I've been very happy how Guizot has progressed since his win at Caulfield a fortnight ago.

"He's been such an honest horse over his career. It's a bonus having Linda Meech to ride Guizot. She really understands the horse. Guizot only has one short sprint and Linda is well aware of that."

Guizot's stablemate Midas Prince resumes for Purcell in benchmark 78 over 1300 metres but he's also drawn a wide barrier. Popular local jockey Declan Bates has been booked to ride Midas Prince.

Purcell said the lightly-raced five-year-old would need races over more ground to show his best.

Fellow Warrnambool trainers Daniel Bowman, Simon Ryan and Lindsey Smith will also have runners at the big nine-race Bendigo program.

The powerful Ciaron Maher-David Eustace stable has numerous runners on the card while veteran Warrnambool-trained Gailo Chop makes a return to racing for Matthew Williams in the $160,000 Doncaster Prelude at Rosehill.
