Russells Creek's Joe Kenna and Matt Petherick, who were set to venture to England next month, are hopeful of a revised June departure date.

Many English leagues have postponed play as COVID-19 cases increase.

More than 3000 cases have been confirmed across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland while Australia is yet to reach 1000.

Kenna said he was in regular contact with his club, which is based in the north-west city of Southport.

"I'm not too worried about myself," he said.

"But they've postponed their seasons so I thought there wasn't any point as they've shut pubs so there wouldn't be work.

"I'm hoping we can go a bit later and get at least half a season in." Kenna said he and Petherick, who are both dual premiership players with Russells Creek, had plans to travel Europe around cricket and work commitments.

Woodford's Liam Burgess was bound for Cheshire-based club Mobberley, the same outfit which hosted Eels teammates Nick Butters and Hank Schlaghecke, until the virus outbreak.

Burgess, 18, said he was also hopeful of making the trip later in the year.

"I've been in touch with the club and the recommendation of the English Cricket Board is to suspend all activities," he said.

"The plan was to travel a bit. Nick and Hank were heading over for a wedding so I thought it would be good to see a bit of Europe.

"(Playing in England) was always something I wanted to do."
