Since the announcement on Tuesday, City Memorial Bowls Club has suspended its events until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It means Tuesday night triples, Thursday social bowls and this Saturday's Scott McLeod Mixed Fours won't go ahead.

City's Bryan Sheehan said the only thing members could do at present was have a roll up.

Dennington Bowls Club's Bowling with Babies program was also suspended this week. It had been a chance for mums to get together for a social bowl.

Port Fairy has cancelled its Easter Carnival, its major club event.

Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Bowls Club cancelled its Ladies' Invitation Day which was meant to be on Thursday this week.

Western District Bowls Division (WDBD) chairwoman Maureen Drennan said the decision to cancel or suspend events was up to individual clubs.

She believes most events will be impacted.

"If they haven't been cancelled now, there's a high possibility they will be," she said.

Drennan said indoor bowls was also affected.

She said the pennant at Val Bertrand Stadium, due to start in April, was postponed.

Drennan added indoor bowls trips, to places such as Broken Hill, had been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the WDBD is counting its lucky stars.

It finished both its Tuesday and Saturday pennants last week.

"We were very, very fortunate to be able to complete them," Drennan said.

The WDBD decided to shorten its pennants, from 18 to 14 weeks, prior to summer.

Drennan said the shorter format worked considering the onset of the coronavirus restrictions.

"We were fortunate that it worked out that way," she said.

"It certainly wasn't in the plan."

Meanwhile, the World Bowls Championships, scheduled for the May/June on the Gold Coast, have been postponed indefinitely. The annual Australia Open, also on the Gold Coast, has been cancelled. The Australian Indoor Championships, for Tweed Heads, has also been cancelled.
