The Jarrod Wilson-led side were rewarded for a faultless season on Tuesday, clinching the division two flag after the coronavirus outbreak forced officials to cancel grand finals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The undefeated Broncos, who stepped down from division one to two in the winter, were set to meet Russells Creek in the second-grade decider.

President Luke Smith said the decision to temporarily retract its division one team had the club moving in the right direction.

"It's a good feeling (to win a flag). A fair bit of work went in to this season," he said.

"It was hard to give up division one to rebuild the club off and on the field. We managed to get some faces back off the field and teas going again.

"We didn't take things too seriously but we let people do what they needed to do to get themselves ready for matches.

"We never pressured ourselves, we trusted ourselves to get the job done."

He said the club harboured hopes of a return to the top-flight in the future but was unlikely to press for an immediate return.

Smith said the return of families and several ex-players had the club well-poised leading into next season.

Meanwhile, Wesley-CBC secured the division three premiership after its grand final clash with Merrivale was scrapped.

Beavers skipper Mark Evans said several talented youngsters played key roles in the season. "The kids were good for us. Division three can be hard with numbers sometimes but they just stepped up," he said.
