Port Fairy's IGA, in a gesture to loyal shoppers and visitors at large, were giving away two toilet rolls to customers who entered the store.

At a time when most supermarkets have been struggling to keep the shelves stocked it seems the IGA has thought of its customers first and foremost with one of life's necessities.

Port Fairy IGA manager Colin Cleary said it was important his business helped the community at a tough time.

"We got a delivery of toilet paper in late on Tuesday night," Mr Cleary said.

"We thought it was better to give customers the opportunity of taking home two rolls of toilet paper for free so we broke the big packets down. We wanted to share the toilet rolls around in the community and it's been well received especially by the elderly people.

"Sadly, people are panic buying we're struggling to keep things on our shelves. The warehouses are struggling to keep items up to the supermarkets because of the massive demands but were doing our best to keep things stocked up."

Mr Cleary, who has been in charge of the Port Fairy IGA for 22 years said the business offered a free home delivery service to local elderly people.
