And brothers Ryder and Jaxon Morgan are a great example of that in action.

The Warrnambool Little Athletics club members were all set for the Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships this weekend in Melbourne.

Unfortunately, the event was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Little Athletics Victoria will try and find a suitable date later in 2020 to stage the event.

It means Ryder will have to wait for another day for his 400-metre sprint. Jaxon has a 70m dash and long jump to look forward to.

But it's their preparation in the lead up to the event that is impressive.

Ryder, 11, hurt his knee playing basketball in November.

He's been nursing that injury for the past months and has been doing some rehabilitation exercises in the family's home gym.

Jaxon, 9, has been in the gym too. Helping his older brother remain diligent with his recovery and going through the exercises as well.

"Sometimes it's hard to keep motivated to do it," Ryder said.

But he praised his younger brother and parents for keeping him honest.

Ryder, who has been doing athletics for four years, is not the only one benefiting.

He's helping his younger brother improve his vertical leap for long jump and basketball.

Ryder said he enjoyed having Jaxon by his side in training and at sports events.

"I like having Jax when I'm doing all my sports and he motivates me to do better," he said.

"And I like having Ryder along because he encourages me to keep going," Jaxon added.

One thing for sure is that when the state championships come around, these boys will be cheering each other on loud and proud from the side of the track.

About a dozen Warrnambool Little Athletics members were due to compete at the state championships.
