The bearded full-back ruptured his Achilles tendon while training last week, leaving a hole in the Kangaroos' back six.
But coach Peter Timms told The Standard the Mack Oval-based club, which has recruited heavily in the summer, has the depth to cover the loss.
Timms said the injury - which can take between four to six months to heal - was a devastating blow for the key defender.
"He heard a pop at training, went for scans, and had the news it was ruptured," he said.

"It's pretty disappointing. He's probably fitter right now than he has ever been.
"He hasn't missed a training. Even while injured, he's been standing out in the middle on crutches taking defensive drills."
The second-year coach said McKane would remain involved off-field throughout his rehabilitation.
"He'll help out with my board. There's a chance he'll be back halfway through the season, we'll just have to see," Timms said.
In the meantime, Timms tipped both Connor Macleod and Jacob Lacy to fill McKane's defensive post.
The duo will play in Creek's two practice matches, against Hawkesdale-Macarthur and Beeac, this week.
"We've got a few options. We'll get a few blokes back this year who are familiar with those kind of roles," he said.
"I've got some good ball-users who can play down back. The only problem is the height factor. Leigh has quite a big reach when he spoils."
Timms was hopeful Creek's rejuvenated midfield would protect its backline.
Recruits Aaron McInnes, Phil Chatfield, Sam Grinter and Zac Timms are ready-made to step into Creek's engine room.
"I think that will take more pressure off the back-line, limiting that supply," Timms said.
"The boys have recently started more stuff relating to structures rather than fitness and skills. We're starting to put it together.
"We're doing a fair bit of game simulation stuff at training and we're happy with where we're at."
New forward Jyran Chatfield also drew praise from Timms. He said the spearhead was cutting a fit figure.
"We've got some small forwards as well who will be able to be at his feet," he said.
"We're happy with that. There's a few holes to plug with Leigh out but there's a few things in the pipeline."
Russells Creek, which finished 10th last season, will face South Rovers in round one. The Kangaroos are vying to snap a 10-year finals drought.
