Charlie, now 16, said when he heard it wasn't going to happen one year he decided to do it himself.
"I do it every year," the Cooriemungle teenager said.
"I love it. Kids love to see the animals.
"I just thought why not. This is my third year."
Like others in the district, coming to the show year in and year was part of growing up.
"We've just always come," he said.
Drizzle throughout Saturday didn't deter people from coming to the 85th Heytesbury show and the 50th show held at Simpson.
Show secretary Linda White said there had been a good amount of entries with the horse and cattle events recording strong numbers.
"We're a up against a few events this weekend," she said.
"But we always have it the Saturday before the long weekend. If we had it before Christmas no one would come because all the farmers would be doing silage."
Ms White said the food bowl had been a new addition and they hoped to grow it over the years.
She said the committee of eight worked hard to get the event off the ground every year.
"The last three or four weeks are the most intensive time," she said.
"We do it for the kids."
