Carson Macedo, a fourth-generation racer from three hours north of Los Angeles, will contest the Australian Speedcar Championship for Dyson Motorsport at Premier Speedway on Friday and Saturday.
Macedo, who was involved in a bust-up with fellow American Kalib Henry on the final night of the South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in January, knows the Allansford circuit well.
The 23-year-old has raced the past five classics but this time will vie for honours in what he dubs a "midget".
"I don't feel the transition (between sprintcar and speedcar) too much. I've done that quite a bit throughout my career," Macedo said.
"I've been doing a bit of racing whenever my schedule allows and then Sean bought a midget, and a nice one too."
Macedo said his close connection with the Dyson family made annual trips to Australia a staple of his racing calendar.
He said his experience on Australian tracks held him in strong stead.
"We've been racing together five or six years," he said.
"We're basically best buddies now. I love coming out here. Sean's wife Felicity, daughter Peyton and his baby son are like family to me.
"I just enjoy spending time over here. Besides the racing, we do a lot of fun things. We go go-karting and do fun things that I don't get to do too often at home.
"It's one of my favourite times of the year, coming out here, I think even if we weren't racing I'd come over and hang out for a month."
Macedo is arguably the highest-profile driver in a star-studded Australian Speedcar Championship field. Reigning champion Dayne Kingshott has nominated while star New Zealander Michael Pickens will also make the trek to the south-west.
Gates open at 4pm.
