For the region there's a high (70 per cent) chance of showers this morning.

Winds will be west to north-westerly 25 to 30 km/h turning south-westerly 25 to 40 km/h in the morning then becoming light in the late evening.

At 7am in Warrnambool it was 13.4 degrees, felt like just 6.6 and 0.6mm of rain just jumped into the gauge.

Warrnambool is expecting a maximum of 17 degrees, Hamilton 19, Colac 19, Ararat 20, Casterton 20, Mortlake 19, Heywood 18, Portland 17, Port Fairy 17, Terang 16 and Camperdown 16.

A cold front just to the southwest of Victoria will sweep through the state today, with a high pressure ridge extending across Victoria later tonight.

A weak cold front will cross Tasmania during Thursday as a high pressure system builds within the ridge south of Western Australia.

This high centre will move to waters south of the Bight on Friday and weaken on Saturday as a broad inland trough extends from NSW into Victoria.

There's also a strong wind warning for the west coast.
