The 16-year-old dislocated her knee fielding a ball mid-way through the first innings of the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association under 17 girls grand final on Sunday.

Couch, who is part of a dedicated cricket family that includes Geelong rising fast bowler Brody, confirmed she had sustained no major damage and was to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

"It's still swollen and a bit painful but it's getting better but I was kind of expecting it to be worst," she said.

"It only just popped out and in and I should be out for only six weeks. I got an x-ray and everything is all good. It was the first time it has happened."

Despite departing for hospital Couch had full confidence in her teammates to get the job done.

"I knew that they could do it because the week before (in the semi-final) I had school camp and I knew they could do it and be able to pull through so I am happy for that," she said.

"I knew when I left (coach) Luke (Cann) would give them a pump up and say 'we need to do this for Ella'."

The Emmanuel College year 11 student was disappointed she could not be there to help her teammates or to join in the celebrations that followed after their dramatic final ball win.

"It made me happy that they won but I was sad that I missed out and there was nothing I could do to help," she said.

But the right-handed bat said she was proud of how far her teammates had progressed in season 2019-20 after finishing runners-up last year.

"All the girls were so supporting and they improved so much over the season," she said. "Luke being our coach he really got behind us all, which was good."

Couch hopes to return next season to help her side defend its title.

"I'm gong to be overage next year but you can have one overage and I'm hoping I'll get that spot," she said.
