Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh, of the Warrnambool-based family violence unit, said this morning the wanted man was arrested at 3.50pm Wednesday in Warrnambool's Karana Drive.
"The man was wanted in relation to allegations involving family violence, evading police, theft of a motorcar and a series of burglaries and thefts," he said.
"Special operations group police assisted in the arrest.
"We've been after him for about four weeks and during the past week have had the assistance of SOG which culminated in the arrest."
Warrnambool's Donovans Road was blocked off by police vehicles and members in Kevlar vests last week as police attempted to arrest the man, who allegedly fled a nearby house.
Police will allege the man committed a burglary in Warrnambool's Hopetoun Road on Wednesday before trying to flee on a bike and was confronted by the police dog.
"In the course of the arrest the man suffered minor injuries after he was bitten to a calf muscle," Senior Sergeant Keogh said.
"He was taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital where he was assessed and treated and then released into police custody about 8pm.
The man appeared briefly in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Thursday with a gash under his left eye.
He kept his eyes closed during most of the proceedings. He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody until February 20.
Magistrate Mark Stratmann said custody management issues included him withdrawing from methamphetamine and requiring an urgent medical assessment for physical injuries following a dog bite.
Senior Sergeant Keogh said the operation to arrest the man had been time consuming and detailed, involving detectives from the family violence unit, Warrnambool crime investigation unit and the SOG.
"I'm very grateful for the dedication and efforts of the police members involved, including the SOG officers and the canine unit, and we're very pleased to have this individual in police custody," he said.
