Warrnambool Field and Game Club secretary Glendon Dickinson said the club decided to donate their hay to a bushfire-affected farmer in East Gippsland.

"The hay has come from the (shooting) club grounds at Woolsthorpe, we cut the hay of a pasture site each year to help fund fences and other activities out at the club," he said

"This year we thought so much has happened in East Gippsland and the north-east that we would forego the income and donate our share of the hay."

A member at the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central, Mr Dickinson was able to get Rotary to assist with funding the fuel cost of Bairnsdale trucking company Grinters Transport to collect the hay and deliver it back to the farmer.

"Grinters' have taken the two loads back to Benambra today," Mr Dickinson said.

"We are doing another truckload next Friday, we have identified another farmer in Cudgewa (north-east Victoria) who will receive another 48 to 50 bales."

Mr Dickinson said the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central has also organised with the Corryong club to give $2000 to a local cafe to provide free coffees to fire-affected community members.

"We want to cover the cost of people having a coffee over the next 12 to 18 months, the $2000 is seed funding and then we will see how it goes," he said.
