But to do it more consistently, captain Mitch Bowman says its batting must improve.
The Beavers endured up-and-down form in Twenty20 cricket, posting two wins and two losses.
Poor batting was the theme in its losses as scores of 75 and 70 proved to be an Achilles heel for the seventh-placed side.
On Saturday, it will be tested again as the Beavers attempt to chase Nestles' 261 in their first two-day match post-Christmas.
"Our form was really hit and miss. I thought our batting let us down quite a bit (in Twenty20 cricket)," Bowman said. "It's hard to defend a low score. But the win we had over West Warrnambool showed we can compete with those top sides. We just have to be up and about."
Bowman said partnerships were key.
"We just need a few people to build some partnerships. We need them to take their time," he said. "Hopefully if we can get ourselves in the runs will flow a little more."
Bowman said Ben Dobson - a former cricketer of the year who formerly played at West Warrnambool - had been a strong recruit.
"I think he carries a bit of pressure with footy so cricket is a nice, relaxing outlet for him," he said. "He really enjoys his time at Wesley."
Joy for female cricket
The Warrnambool and District Cricket Association is celebrating after winning the inaugural under 17 female country week crown.
The under 13 side, who went undefeated through the week, finished runner-up to a Sunraysia team.
Pirate for a day
A passionate cricketer with a desire to raise awareness for mental health charity will travel to the south-west for the second time this season on Saturday.
Melbourne's Criag Dodson has been travelling around Australia playing 10 games of cricket at 10 different clubs to raise money and awareness for mental health charity Gotcha4Life.
Dodson, 41, a right-handed off-spinning all-rounder, said the idea for his "cricket adventure" popped into his head one night watching the recent English Ashes Series.
"I was sitting up late at around 2am watching the second test and I was missing playing the game and thought I wanted to get back into it and do a bit of writing on the side," he said. "So I thought why not travel around the country, play cricket and tell the story of my experience. I tapped my wife (Sophie) and said 'I have a great idea' and she replied 'you're just having a midlife crisis, wake up to yourself' but I thought I can make this happen and it went from there."
Mental health awareness is very close to Dodson's heart after experiencing his own battle with depression in his early 30s.
He got through this battle with the help from some good mates and mental health professionals and formed the main reason behind his desire to raise awareness and funds.
The local council sport infrastructure manager started his journey with South West Cricket club Pomborneit and this weekend will suit up for Port Fairy's division three side in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association.
Dodson said of the eight clubs he has visited so far, Pomborneit has been the most welcoming with half of the small town heading down to watch what was the first game of his adventure.
This weekend's opportunity with Port Fairy was organised through former Port Fairy division one player Steve Dwyer.
The father-of-two, who has already raised $6000 and travelled over 10,000kms around the country, hoped he would receive another warm south-west welcome from the Pirates' faithful.
