Clegg's side went down to Timboon Gold 95-47 at home in the Western District Bowls Division top-tier pennant on Saturday.
"I've been involved in lots of different clubs but this would be the most inclusive, which is perhaps surprising for some people," he said.
"But the members here, they quickly adopted me and I felt very much part of a club as opposed to just being a player."

Clegg has pursued a plethora of activities throughout his life.
"I played football when I was younger, then I was out of sports and into more recreation with scuba diving, fishing, music and theatre," he said.
"I was probably more artsy than I was sporty."
Clegg, who plays as a third, said the beauty of the WDBD is that there was so many people involved.
"You get to know a lot of people across a lot of communities which I hadn't realised," he said.
"If we're talking about scuba diving - you don't need too many people to do that.
"You meet a few in a club or whatever.
"But this (bowls) is incredible."
Clegg started playing bowls five years ago and is loving the team game.
"The club was keen for me to play pennant but I had some reservations as a beginner bowler but after a couple of years I started playing pennant," he said.
"It's been fantastic."
Clegg, who is a fan of the saying "practice makes perfect", can be found at greens numerous time a week.
He trains with his pennant team on Thursday nights and follows up with social bowls on Fridays.
The enthusiastic bowler also fills in for Warrnambool's mid-week pennant team.
Warrnambool Blue, sitting ninth, has one win and seven losses this season.
But Clegg said that won't stop his team from making the most of the rest of the pennant.
