WARRNAMBOOL'S Nathan Sobey will feature in the Australian Boomers' Asia Cup Qualifiers in February.
The 29-year-old Brisbane Bullets point guard is one of five NBL stars who will lead the 24-player squad, which will be coached by Will Weaver due to head coach Brett Brown's NBA commitments.
Sobey, along with fellow NBL stars Chris Goulding, Mitch Creek, David Barlow, Cameron Gliddon are the only players in the squad who were part of the Boomers' team that finished fourth at the FIBA World Cup i 2019.
The Warrnambool Seahawks championship player is averaging nearly 16 points, four rebounds and three assists per game for the Bullets this season.
The Boomers will play at home in the opening game against New Zealand on February 20 at Brisbane's Nissan Arena before traveling to play Hong Kong on February 23.
Weaver, who is head coach of the Sydney Kings, will have Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence head coach Adam Caporn and Brisbane Bullets assistant CJ Bruton by his side for the two games.
"We're fortunate to have so many talented players eager to step up whenever they have the chance to represent Australia," Weaver said.
"It's always a tremendous honour to be part of the Boomers program and we are excited for this group to start the journey of qualifying for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup on home soil against New Zealand in Brisbane."
