Miracle result
PORT Fairy's colts have reason to celebrate.
The Pirates' under 17s could only manage 67 in their Twenty20 semi-final against Wesley-CBC on Tuesday night.
But it didn't matter.
A clinical bowling effort removed Wesley-CBC for just 21 runs and pushed the Pirates into the decider, which is scheduled for Australia Day.
Port Fairy coach Brian Medew said his team never gave up.
"They refused to believe that the game was lost," he said.
"When asked for a measured response by controlling what we could do with the ball and in the field they did it to a tee."
Medew said he was thrilled to advance to the final.
"They're an amazing group of young people that enjoy being a part of a team effort," he said. "Very proud of the group."
The under 17 Twenty20 final will be held at McLean Oval while Sungold Cup fixtures take place on the other side of the pavilion on Uebergang Oval.
Saint's celebration
The milestones continue to flow for Koroit's division two side.
Last weekend it was youngster Jack O'Sullivan celebrating 50 games for the club and this Saturday in the Saints' match against Woodford it's Patrick Sinnott's time to celebrate a half-century of appearances.
The 25-year-old has previously served as captain-coach of the side after crossing over from Grassmere Cricket Association club Yambuk to the Warrnambool and District division two side in 2016/17.
The right-handed batsman has made 1266 runs at an average of 30.14. He has scored five 50s and two 100s with a highest score of 148.
Sinnott has also taken 47 wickets at an average of 23.23. He has also claimed two five-wicket hauls and has best figures of 6-10.
Super-over madness
TWENTY20S can toss up some interesting finishes and for West Warrnambool and Nestles Saturday's result was no different.
The two sides finished their 20 overs on 105 runs, meaning a super-over was required to decide the winner. West, who batted first, managed to score 1-5 from their over before Nestles claimed the win with six runs from four balls.
The two teams are in a tight tussle for superior ladder positions. The win brings fifth-place Nestles within six points of West, who sit in fourth on the ladder.
If Factory had of lost it could have been out to and 18-point margin and would have put Nestles' chances of finals in a precarious position.
Because of the defeat, West Warrnambool is now 12 points behind third-placed Woodford.
Smoked off
MATT Love's Western Waves' under 18 side missed out on play for the second consecutive day as smoke blanketed Melbourne on Wednesday morning.
The Waves are currently placed second last after two draws and two losses.
Alastair Templeton's under 14 side, however, suffered defeat in its clash with Rivers at Kardinia Park West.
Allansford's Noah Greene was among the best performers, hitting 22 and claiming two wickets.
The under 14 side will play Spirit at Geelong College on Thursday.
The under 18s will face Barwon and Spirit at Greenvale Reserve on Thursday.
Golden moment
WARRNAMBOOL Gold has stormed home to claim the Portland Under 13 Country Week title.
A five-wicket victory over Mount Gambier on Thursday capped off a terrific week for the young Warrnambool and District Cricket Association side.
Jarrod Ferguson was the star with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 6-10 to help restrict Mount Gambier to 90.
Hamish Alexander (19 not out), Callum Leahy (12 not out) and Jett Grayland (not out) helped Gold chase down the total.
Gold defeated Horsham Cricket Association in the semi-final before keeping their unbeaten run intact in the deciding fixture.
Warrnambool Blue defeated South West Cricket in their final game of the week.
